Gentle readers, your MatchGirl has lived in the same Brooklyn apartment for about 6 1/2 years now. It's the longest I have lived in one place since I was 10 years old. And, while I changed rooms and got rid of a lot of stuff when my old roommate moved out and before the current one moved in, that was still three years ago.
In short, there is a lot of stuff. A lot.
The amount of stuff that Boyfriend owns pretty much fits entirely in his car.
Let's just say that's not the case with me. So, as I pack things, for our upcoming move, I am trying to purge some things. There are little things that take up very little room and there are pieces of furniture that I'm going to sell. There are clothes and books that need to be taken to the Salvation Army. There are a handful of things that I ought to sell on Ebay. There are certainly some things that need to go.
The funny thing about moving is going through all the things that you've collected over the years. Things you want to hang on to for no real reason. Snippets of memories on paper or fabric. Mementos. Toys. Some of them valuable in a sell them kind of way. Some of them valuable only to you.
Since we are not moving for a month, I have just started this quiet purging process. I'm not exactly looking forward to walking down memory lane - I definitely see no need to linger there. If I think of any helpful hints while going through this purge, I will be sure to share them with you here.
